Athenian Life is an adventure program set in ancient Greece which supports children working towards Level 3 and 4 attainment targets for Key Stage 2 History (especially QCA KS2 history scheme of work unit 14: Who were the ancient Greeks?). The software also provides background knowledge for the QCA KS2 history scheme of work unit 15: How do we use ancient Greek ideas today? (Years 5 and 6). The adventure starts in the present time when Karla and Jack go on a school trip to see the famous story of The Iliad, which was written by the poet Homer nearly 3000 years ago. After the play has finished they sneak away and explore back stage. Whilst playing with the actors' costumes they magically travel back in time to Ancient Greece. Once there they are sold as slaves. Students then embark on an adventure to help the children to return to their own time. During the adventure comparisons are made between life as we know it now and life as it was in Ancient Greece. Many problems have to be solved and several educational activities completed before the children can return to their own time. Karla and Jack eventually discover that life as child slaves in Ancient Greece was both an exciting and an educational experience. ![]() Key Features
